How To Measure A Padlock

Making sure that the padlock you choose is right for you

Padlocks are a relatively easy product to identify and order however there are a few things you need to watch out for. Some points to consider are will the shackle fit through the hole in the locking device, once fitted will you still have access to the key hole and is the padlock secure enough for your application.

Open Shackle
Closed Shackle
Sliding Shackle
Open shackle padlocks are by far the most popular type of padlock, they are available in a huge range of sizes and finishes and are very easy to use. Closed shackle padlocks offer a higher level of security but have a smaller opening than open shackle padlocks. Sliding shackle padlocks are also know as block locks because of their solid metal block construction. They are a very secure padlock and ideal for use in heavy duty applications such as barriers and containers.
